Purpose/Aim: English is the window to the world. It has been regarded as the international language. With the advent of globalization and privatization, the world has turned into a "global village". Modern technology has also given a new momentum to language learning. Engineering professionals, who are proficient in communication skills, have a considerable edge over those who have not. Lack of communication skills will certainly make an engineering professional short of resources. In a multi-lingual society, modern engineering professionals must also be able to communicate effectively in a shared tongue. The language laboratory plays an important role in the language learning process. An electronic language lab is value addition to the teaching and learning process of the English language. In a well equipped lab, a wide range of language development materials is available for engineering students to practice their latent skills. The present paper explores the importance of English Language Labs in Engineering as well as in allied Courses.”
